You can even create new playlists in Serato, which will propagate over to Tidal and vice versa. Within Serato, you can see all of your Tidal playlist you’ve created. Once this is done, you are now ready to start using Tidal Streaming with Serato. You’ll be asked to log into Tidal from your default web browser. Once you are connected to your wifi, launch your Serato software, now open your Serato settings, go to the Library & Display tab and select Tidal as the streaming service. In order to use Tidal Streaming with Serato, you’ll need a WiFi connection. So let’s get into how this service works and my experience. But as much of a Hip Hop fan I am, when I’m DJing, it’s Deep House, Deep Minimal (yes, that’s a thing) Lounge/Chillout and Afro-Brazilian, that’s my pocket. Some are curated others are just ridiculous and how is the artist getting paid from these rogue remixes. I found everything Pete Rock (one of my favorite producers) has released on Tidal. Tidal has just about everything when it comes to Hip Hop. I’ll get to my final conclusion later, but here are my thoughts about this service and how it may work for you.įirst and foremost, if you’re a Hip Hop DJ, you’ll love this service. However, I’ve been using the Tidal Streaming integration with Serato DJ Pro for a little over a month. Not to mention its ultra, extra compression it does to your music during uploads. Let me start by dismissing SoundCloud as a true streaming service. Sorry Rekordbox and Virtual DJ users, you don’t have a streaming service integration…yet. Enter Tidal & Soundcloud Streaming integration with Serato DJ Pro (ONLY). Beatport doesn’t have the catalog like a true streaming service, such as Tidal, Spotify or Apple Music, so it’s going to be very interesting to see what “Beatport LINK” is all about and how its UI/UX will interact with other DJ software.įull circle and we now have other players jumping into the void left by Pulselocker. I did use the Pulselocker service with RekordBox…it was just ok. Serato, RekordBox and Virtual DJ users were FUCKED! Beatport later purchased Pulselocker and will inevitably launch a similar service, let’s call it “Beatport LINK” LOL. In November they ceased operations, so it will be interesting to see whether they will return to Serato, rekordbox and others.īeatport acquire Pulselocker, just as Spotify enters the New York Stock Market Exchange, valued at $26.5 million.Remember when Pulselocker just got up one day and shut down its service. Though CDJ with high-res audio streaming from the cloud may be a long way away, it does feel like we’re inching closer towards that dream. Tracks are available as 320 kbps MP3’s (sometimes only 256 kbps), which isn’t ideal for those (hopefully all) DJs playing wav or aiff files when performing. There is a downside to all of this, and it has to do with the sound quality. “Beatport is committed to delivering the best tools to create a more seamless and interoperable user experience for our massive ecosystem of DJs, and Pulselocker accelerates our timeline to deliver just that type of product.” The details of the acquirement have been on the down low, though Beatport CEO Rob McDaniel did give a statement: This means that DJs can access a catalogue of over 44 million songs and play it directly through their DJ software, either Serato DJ and rekordbox without requiring an internet connection to stream.ĭespite their own streaming platform failing in 2016, it seems that they are going to give it another bash. They’re web-based service features applications like Sync, on demand streaming, personalized homepages, cloud-based accessibility, social focus and self-representation. A ‘Spotify for electronic music,’ if you will.
